Radhika to head Ponda once again

GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 20 May 2013 23:38 IST

Radhika Nayak is all set to be chairperson of Ponda Municipal Council once again.

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party is however yet to decide about who would head the Sankhli municipal council.

Elections for the posts of chairperson and vice chairperson would be held tomorrow morning.

Polling in both the municipalities had taken place on 12 May, with results declared the next day.

Panels of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party combine had swept the polls, defeating the Congress.

There is only one nomination each for the top posts in Ponda.

Besides Nayak, who is the principal of Dempo College of Commerce in Panaji, Shantaram Kolvekar has filed the nomination for the post of vice chairperson.

There is however no consensus reached for the post of Sankhli council.

Four BJP councilors - Upendra Karpe, Damu Ghadi, Manisha Pokle and Narayan Relekar – have filed their nomination for the top post.

Dharmesh Saglani, an independent, has filed his nomination in Sankhli.
