ACB to probe into Meat Complex land scam
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 22 April 2013 16:15 IST

A land allotment scandal, perhaps during the tenure of Mickky Pacheco as the animal husbandry minister, is being referred to the Anti Corruption Branch of Goa police.
The Goa Meat Complex sub-leased the Communidade land, much after its lease agreement expired, to Kundil Ispat Ltd, at a throwaway price of Rs three per square meter, for the period of 30 years.
Chief minister Manohar Parrikar today told the Assembly that the lease agreement would be cancelled within 30 days.
The issue was raised by St Andre MLA Vishnu Wagh.
The ACB would probe into the whole issue, including the meager amount of Rs 1500 as the lease rent and Rs 53,000 as the ground rent for an area of 18,700 sq mts at a prime location.
As told to the House, the lease of Usgao Communidade with the Meat Complex had expired on 1 April 2007 while it was sub-leased to Kundil Ispat on 27 February 2008.
“Not even a cabinet decision was taken and no proper assessment was also made”, chief minister told the House.
No politician heading the department was mentioned during the whole debate.
However, while replying to the fate of Meat Complex, Parrikar said that the Meat Complex has been in a total mess since 2005 and matters are pending in the courts due to chaos.
During this period, records stated that Mickky was the animal husbandry minister.
Ponda MLA Lavoo Mamledar however demanded that action be taken against the officers who were involved in this land scandal.
