Was Arun Desai pressurising office peon after arrest?
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 16 September 2015 12:18 IST

Is Arun Desai transferred from the position of transport director because he was pressurising the office peon arrested in the bribery case?
Highly placed sources in the police department confirm that Desai was pressurising the arrested peon as well as son of Vishram Govekar, assistant director of transport.
Anti-Corruption Branch SP Bosco George however refuses to confirm this, though he admits that they had requested the government to transfer Desai.
“I will speak only when I get proper evidence, not before that”, he told goanews.com.
Desai, who is tipped to be elevated to the IAS cadre, was suddenly transferred yesterday by the state government.
He has been posted as North Goa additional collector-II, while Sunil Masurkar, holding this position, has been sent as the transport director.
The ACB had caught transport director’s office peon Dattaram alias Damu Gaude red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs one lakh on 28 August.
It was part of a deal of Rs five lakh, reportedly to close office inquiry against assistant motor vehicle inspector Alister Fernandes, who tipped off the ACB.
Fernandes told the ACB that the peon had taken the bribe amount to forward it to transport director Desai.
Peon Gaude however has denied the allegation and named deputy director Govekar.
Sources now confirm that Desai pressurised peon Gaude, while in judicial custody, not to name him but Govekar.
Govekar, while denying his involvement, learnt to have counter-questioned the ACB why he would strike any deal with the peon attached to the transport director’s office.
The ACB has quizzed both Desai as well as Govekar, while also raiding Govekar’s house.
The police are presently verifying the documents seized from the house of Govekar.
It is also learnt that Govekar’s son, who runs a transport business, has handed over recording of a mobile conversation between him and transferred transport director Desai.
Desai has reportedly told Govekar’s son that the BJP government is targeting transport department to settle political scores with the MGP, whose leader Sudin Dhawalikar is heading the transport ministry.
