Churchill disowns family politicians while joining NCP
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 17 October 2016 22:40 IST

Churchill Alemao has disowned his family, as far as promoting them in the Family Raj politics.
He prefers to go alone while joining the Nationalist Congress Party.
“Let Valanka decide what she wants to do. And I don’t know what Joaquim or his son Yuri is doing”, he told the section of media, after opening his party office in Benaulim.
The Alemao family had received a biggest blow in 2012 Assembly election when all the four candidates of Alemao family – ministerial brothers Churchill and Joaquim as well as Churchill’s daughter Valanka on Congress ticket and Yuri on Nationalist Congress Party ticket – had lost.
After his daughter was denied Lok Sabha ticket from South Goa in 2014 election, Churchill had quit the party and contested on Trinamool Congress, but could not even poll 3 per cent votes.
Since then he had been frantically trying for homecoming, but failed.
Finally, the political heavyweight of Saxtti joined the NCP to contest from Benaulim.
But he clarified that he would not try to get his daughter back to the electoral politics.
“She is a lawyer and busy with her social work. Let her decide what she wants to do”, he said.
He is also not sure whether his brother Joaquim would get Congress ticket to contest from Cuncolim.
NCP Goa chief Jose Philip D’Souza, to whom Churchill is his political godfather, said he (Churchill) had refused to take over as the party president.
“He wants to work for the party without holding any position”, said D’Souza.
CHURCHILL NOT A THREAT: CAITU
On the other hand, Benaulim MLA Caitu Silva said Churchill is not at a threat to him.
The Goa Vikas Party legislator is in fact trying to contest independent by breaking his ties with the party leader Mickky Pacheco.
Though his increasing strained relation with Mickky was no more a secret, eyebrows were raised in political circles when Caitu suddenly went to meet Mickky.
“I have done more developmental work in Benaulim than my predecessor”, said Caitu, undermining ex-MLA of Benaulim.
He also had all the praises for defence minister Manohar Parrikar, for helping him in the developmental works in Benaulim.
“This CM (Laxmikant Parsekar) has not helped me in any manner”, said Caitu, making it also clear that he would not be BJP-sponsored candidate from Benaulim.
