Police today filed a chargesheet against Osban Lucas Fernandes and Ramesh Bagve in a double murder case of stunning nature that took place in May.
Both had buried their labourer Shivaji Nayak at Ribandar after beating him to death on 11 May and later thrown his wife Sujata in a valley at Anmod Ghat near Mollem after strangulating and stripping her off on 13 May.
In a similar fashion, the duo had also stripped off their children – six-year old daughter and four-year old son – and threw them down in the valley in half-dead position the same day.
However, the children miraculously survived and climbed up the Anmod Ghat road next day morning when Bonaventrue D’Souza, a Verna-based businessmen, spotted them while returning from Belgaum.
After he alerted the Collem police, they recovered the dead body of their mother Sujata.
While returning to Panaji in a police jeep, the children spotted Fernandes at Ribandar on the road and he was immedaitely arrested.
Later, his accomplice Ramesh was also nabbed by the police while the dead body of father Shivaji was also recovered from the pit.
Fernandes, supplying construction material, had a verbal clash on the night of 11 May, with his labourer Shivaji, originally from Kolhapur.
The clash resulted into Fernandes, along with his accomplice Ramesh, killing Shivaji and getting rid of the dead body by burying him at his godown site, digging a pit using his JCB.
When his wife Sujata came next day morning to enquire about her husband, Fernandes told her that he is in the hospital.
He then put the whole family – the mother and her little children - in the vehicle and took them all around roaming from place to place and then got rid of them at Anmod ghat by trying to kill them.
The nine-page chargesheet has cited 104 witnesses in the case.
The murderer duo has been accused under section 302, 307, 364, 354, 201 r/w 34 IPC and section 8(2) of Goa Children Act and section 7,8,16 & 17 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
