Scribe alerted police after 1st murder; but police ignored...

Crime reporter Shyam Naik of Dainik Herald

While police higher ups had a press conference to congratulate the police team for nabbing the double murder accused, an alert journalist exposed how the police were actually negligent in nabbing the murderer.

Oswan Lucas Fernandes and Ramesh Bagwe were arrested by Goa police for killing their labourer Shivaji Naik on Saturday night and his wife Sujata on Sunday, while also trying to kill their children by strangulating them.

Shyam Surya Naik, crime reporter of Dainik Herald, at the press conference held late tonight shocked the whole media when he told DIG O P Misra that he had alerted the Ribandar police on Saturday night about the first murder.

“But your police officers did nothing to arrest the murderer even when I gave his name and told the location of the murder”, Shyam told the DIG, even showing Oswan’s visiting card.

Rather than expressing regrets over his police team doing little about the fact, DIG Misra bounced back on the journalist, asking him why he did not take the police team to the murder spot.

According to Shyam, the horrifying incident was disclosed to him by the driver of the JCB, who dug a pit, not knowing that it was meant to burry a dead body.

When he came to know about the murder, he disclosed it to his reporter friend Shyam, who rushed to Panaji DySP Umesh Gaonkar.

DySP Gaonkar immediately alerted Old Goa PI Devendra Gad and told him to investigate, but very little was done by Old Goa police station till the next day.

“If the police had moved into action immediately and arrested Oswan the same night, more precious lives could have been saved”, said agitated Shyam.

DIG Misra then immediately instructed North Goa SP Vishram Borkar, sitting next to him, to investigate into the whole episode.

“We will not spare anybody if they are found guilty. Give me little time, I will investigate and come back to you”, he assured the journalists.

According to Shyam, the first murder took place on Friday night (not Saturday as claimed by the police) and he was told by the driver about it on Saturday evening as soon as he came to know that the pit was dug to burry Shivaji’s dead body.

“I am thankful to the crime reporter”, said DIG Misra, who was all nervous listening to the story behind the murder story…

Senior police officers should make thorough investigation into this episode and find out why, even after getting information, police would not act.

How can the people have faith in the police if this type of things happen?

Had the scribe told Goa Police there was a lot of money lying around, they would have acted swiftly....I am sure.
