Frankfurt model of garbage treatment in S Goa

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s personal Europe trip has apparently brought one more model of garbage treatment plant in Goa, this time a German model.
He is planning to set it up in South Goa, but has not disclosed the location.
Estimating a plant worth Rs 90 crore, Parrikar says it would also generate around 1.2 MW of power.
While the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) had approved it, Parrikar personally visited one such plant existing in Kaiserslautern, a town situated 110 kms away from Frankfurt.
This plant would be in addition to the Sonsodo project being mooted by Fomento Green.
According to Parrikar, the plant will have a capacity to process around 100 tonnes of garbage every day.
It would be executed on BOOT basis by the state-run GSIDC, the chief minister told the media in Margao yesterday.
While the process of setting it up would begin next month, it is expected to be completed within a year.
Segregation of waste is a must even for this plant, said Parrikar.
The plant he visited in Frankfurt, he says, does emanate stink and not a single fly is seen near the plant.
It handles mixed garbage, waste and even plastic, he adds.
