Lokayukta should declare assets: Aires
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 03 June 2013 09:20 IST

Social activist Aires Rodrigues has demanded that Justice B Sudarshan Reddy declare his assets and liabilities as on 16 March, the day he was sworn in as Goa Lokayukta.
Rodrigues has expressed surprise that Lokayukta has not declared his assets while three months have passed for his appointment.
Though it is not a requirement by law, Rodrigues has stated that if the Lokayukta can ask assets and liabilities of all public officials, there was nothing wrong in making public his own assets and liabilities.
He also feels that all the officials who are working and would be working within the Lokayukta should also make their assets and liabilities public.
The Lokayukta could act with genuine moral authority against erring public officials only when he himself upholds a very high degree of transparency and candidness, opines Rodrigues.
He has also questioned why no official website of the Goa Lokayukta is set up till date.
