Goa bags international award for digital land records

Goa government has bagged the Geospatial World Excellence Award for its e-governance project of making available for viewing and printing land records of Goa through its website.

The website of the Directorate of Settlement & Land Records – www.dharnaksh.com is being chosen from 270 nominations received from all over the world.

Goa is the only state of India bagging this award, along with 10 other countries.

Director Mihir Vardhan received the award on 15 May at Geospatial World Forum Conference held at Rotterdam in Netherlands, at the hands of Dr Vanesa Lawrence, Director & CEO of Survey of United Kingdom.

Following this, the directorate is now taking the website at next level of making digitally signed copies of land records available from the first week of June, step by step for each taluka.

There were 270 nominations for the award, out of which 70 were shortlisted and 11 were conferred the awards.

The other 10 countries are USA, Russia, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Sweden, China, Canada, UAE and Azerbaijan, receiving awards in different categories.

After launching the website in June last year, the website till 21 May has received 29,278 hits with 1916 registered users, extracting copies of the land records through e-payment system.

The website gets around 100 to 150 visitors every day with 15 per cent users from outside India.

The highest number of visitors are 2566 from the USA, followed by 769 visitors from Australia and then from UK, Canada, UAE, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Singapore and some other European countries.
