He can go to jail like Chautala, CM hints at Vishwajeet

The recruitment scam in agriculture and health departments is a fit case to send the ‘responsible’ person to jail, like Omprakash Chautala and his son, said chief minister Manohar Parrikar, for violating Supreme Court guidelines in government recruitment.
He was obviously referring to Vishwajeet Rane, as he is the only one who handled both the departments during the erstwhile Congress regime.
Replying to the question raised by his party MLA Carlos Almeida, Parrikar assured the House today that he would conduct preliminary inquiry by the vigilance department within two weeks.
“I will inform the House on 2 May whether the case would be handed over to the Anti Corruption Branch or Lokayukta”, said the chief minister.
Incidentally, Valpoi MLA Vishwajeet Rane was not present in the House today during the Question Hour.
Though he did not take Vishwajeet’s name, Parrikar made it amply clear stating that 41 out of 81 candidates selected in the agriculture department were from Sattari taluka and two from Dharbandora taluka, which belongs to ‘his’ constituency (Valpoi).
The issue raised was regarding appointments made in the agriculture department during July 2009 to November 2011.
According to Parrikar, it is a clear cut violation of Supreme Court guidelines since all the selected candidates have been given same marks for Qualification – 60 or 70 to everybody.
“The other tests like orals etc just did not matter”, he said.
Parrikar also pointed out that some candidates have registered in the employment exchange after the advertisements were released and were still sent interview calls.
“There is one case in the health department where a person is appointed without even an application”, revealed the chief minister.
He however felt that all these candidates might not have been appointed by taking money, but they could be favouritism and nepotism cases.
“Where do you want this case be referred to; ACB or Lokayukta”, asked Parrikar to Almeida.
“Anyone, but the person has to go to jail”, quipped Almeida.
“I cannot send anybody to jail. It is the job of police or the Lokayukta”, said CM.
“He should go to jail like Chautala”, Almeida felt.
“Let them investigate it thoroughly, I don’t know who is involved, but he can go to jail like Chautala”, assured Parrikar.
