21 Cr to each municipality, 80 L to each panchayat!!

The self-governing bodies in Goa have a major task to upgrade cities and villages, which the union budget enhancing its grants by 228 per cent.
Union finance minister Arun Jaitley has announced a splendid hike in the grant-in-aid – over Rs 21 crore to each municipality and Rs 80 lakh to each panchayat.
With 191 panchayats and 14 municipalities, Goa will get additional grants of Rs 455 crore, said Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar.
“These enhanced allocations are capable of transforming villages and small towns”, said Jaitley in his budget speech.
He has however also stated that the Ministry of Panchayati Raj will work with the States and evolve guidelines to actualise this.
The total fund allocation made by the central government to implement this quantum jump is a total sum of Rs 2.87 lakh crore.

I hope the people of Goa will not protest against such central grants. Afterall it is not gratuitous money but it is public money which can be used for betterment of community n surroundings.
