Covid deaths appear declining, but working people still on the road
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 10 May 2021 22:02 IST

After playing havoc for the last nine days, Covid19 death rate appears to be declining. The picture however would be clear only tomorrow when the GMC bulletin reports deaths of the second half of the day.
In the last nine and a half days, Goa has reported 532 deaths against 346 deaths occured in the entire month in April.
GMC releases a mortality bulletin every day with the deaths reported till today afternoon and of the previous day till midnight.

There was a sudden spurt in the number of deaths from the first day of the month. While deaths reported in April were between 21 to 30 every day, May 1st came as a shock with 55 people succumbing to the deadly virus.
The second wave of pandemic is seen playing havoc since then. On the 5th May, almost 76 people lost their lives, some of them also due to shortage of Oxygen in the hospitals.

However, for the first time this month, the number of deaths in the first half has come down to 16, creating a hope of decline in the number of deaths.
This is also against more than 30 deaths reported in both the halves of the day.
This number had come down only on 4th May, when 18 deaths were reported in the fist half and 28 in the second, with a total number of 46 deaths, lowest in this month.
The Covid warriors, including the doctors, nurses and other paramedical staff including the ambulance drivers are working day and night to save as many lives as possible.
Even before the 15-day curfew declared by the government since yesterday, many panchayats and cities had announced voluntary lockdowns while majority people have also restricted their movement.
Hopefully, good sense would prevail upon the people of Goa (including the greedy politicians) in controlling the spread of the virus.
Though educational institutions and shops of non-essential goods are shut down, the government has still kept open all the industrial units, including non-essential, as well as government offices and banks with more than half of Goa’s working population are still coming out of their houses.
Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has thus come under heavy criticism on social media platforms for pushing the working people into a danger zone for the benefit of the industrial class.
