18 bodies recovered, 11 trapped, 22 rescued, 5 from Jharkhand
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 07 January 2014 20:02 IST

The rescue teams in Canacona have recovered 18 dead bodies so far from the collapsed building of Ruby Residency while 22 have been pulled out alive.
One body was seen below the debris late evening today, but could not be pulled out as the adjoining building started shaking once again when the rescue teams started the JCB machine to clear the debris.
The machine work has stopped since yesterday as one of the adjoining buildings started tilting. With manual clearing of the debris, the rescue teams pulled out one more dead body, with the official death toll reaching 18.
The rescue work has thus been stopped at night, after working day and night for the last four days.
While 40 workers have been pulled out since then, chief minister Manohar Parrikar today informed that 11 more workers are still suspected to be trapped inside.
“There are hardly any changes of anybody finding alive”, he said.
The authorities have identified 17 bodies till now, while the 18th one pulled out today evening was not in a condition to recognize.
As the body looked like a labour from Canacona, relatives of two families have rushed to the Hospicio hospital in Margao, where the dead body was taken.
The authorities have still not been able to find out which state four workers, whose names are found, come from.
Among the identified, five are from Jharkhand, three from Canacona, two from Karnataka and one each from Nepal, Orissa and Kerala.
Principal secretary of Jharkhand is already down in Goa and he would airlift the dead bodies for last rites to their respective villages.
