Airport officials however said the runway is safe and few flights have already landed, including one regular flight and one charter flight.

Authorities said they immediately diverted two charter flights to Bangaluru and Mumbai while the Oman Air flight was also diverted to Mumbai after the incident occurred.

Some flights were also cancelled.

At 5.30 today morning, the Jet Airways flight taking off for Mumbai suddenly veered off the runway and grounded near a compound wall.

Around 20 passengers sustained minor injuries when they tried to jump out in panic after emergency doors were opened.
