Maharashtra revenue minister Narayan Rane’s younger son Nitesh Rane was today arrested along with his eight supporters by Goa police for vandalising the entry toll booth and beating up government personnel.
They have been charged with assault, assaulting government servants while on duty, destruction of public property as well as cheating.
Nilesh Rane, elder son of minister Rane and the Maharashtra MP, later on apologised for the untoward incident but the police refused to budge.
“It is a serious crime and we will produce them tomorrow for remand”, Mapusa DySP Serafin Dias told goanews.com.
According to police, Nitesh along with his supporters in a vehicle, refused to pay the entry toll at the Goa-Maharashtra border check post and assaulted the toll employees at the booth when they refused the vehicle to go without payment.
While Nitesh and his accomplices fled to their Goa-based resort in Calangute, around 30 kms from the border post, Pernem police swung into action and picked them up from the Nilaya Resort.
While the incident occurred at around 2.30 pm today, around 500 Rane supporters marched to Pernem police station in around 25 vehicles, demanding their release.
Nilesh Rane however rushed to the spot and apologised for the incident, but the police refused to release them.
While revenue minister Narayan Rane is the MLA of Malwan, across Goa border, his son Nilesh Rane is the MP from the Sindhudurg, from the Konkan region of Maharashtra.
Nitesh runs an organisation called Swabhiman.

Considering he is an MLA and a son of an MLA, it is unlikely he will ever be jailed.
A bit of cash, "under the table" in the form of bribes and Goa Police`s habit to mis-handle & fudge Cases, Nitesh Rane Jr. is most likely to go scot free.
Goa Police must be rubbing their hands in glee, awaiting their hands to be greased with some hafta.
