Lusofonia infra to be ready by 10 Oct

The Goa government has assured that most of the infrastructural facilities for the Lusofonia Games will be in place before the October 10 deadline here.

"Mostly all the stadia would be completed before the deadline of October 10, but in case of one facility near Goa university we are trying to finish it at least within the deadline," Keshav Chandra, Chief Executive Officer, Lusofonia Games 2013 told reporters here. 

The Portuguese Commonwealth Games scheduled in October-November this year would be held across six venues, two of which are already constructed stadia including Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium at Fatorda near Margao town. 

The 12 Portuguese speaking nations would be participating in the event. 

 

Chandra said the work on infrastructure for the Games began late, which was further compounded by the rains. 

"But still we have set a deadline of October 10 to complete all the infrastructure," he said. 

The opening ceremony of the event is scheduled to be held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium at Fatorda, the details of which are kept under wraps by the organisers.

The current BJP led Government of Goa , has not been very keen on the expansion of Dabolim Airport.

Its ulterior motives are there for all to see.

Neither has it been keen, on the Lusofonia Games.

There seems to be a mixing of Politics and dogmas with Sports.

Dabolim was originally scheduled to be opened in March 2013.This was delayed to June ,then July, Then September. It has now been further delayed to October ,in time for the new Tourist season.

The Infrastructure of the Lusofonia games too, have been met with similar month on month delays and Promises after promises.

There is no doubt that both these Projects /schemes(call it what you like) will incur heavy cost over-runs.

A lot of the cost over-runs will be fed into the "Back pockets" of the various Ministers involved and swell their Bank Accounts.

Most Goans expect these projects will be sub-standard in nature.

Goan Politicians are big on words ,ideas & promises...but slow & small in delivering them.

What is even worse is the shame expected to come to Goa & Goans with a complete mis-management of these projects.

The winners will be the Politicians....and the losers ordinary law-abiding Goans.

Instead of promoting Goa and furthering Tourism with Dabolim & the Lusofonia games, Politicians are more keen of disgracing it.

A report featured in a TV news channel has already concluded, Goa is no longer a Prime Tourist destination for both Foreign and Indian tourists.

Tourists are no longer keen on Gimmicks and sub-standard hospitalities.

The Government and its most notably a bulk of its un-educated and semi-literate Ministers /Politicians also fail to see that Goa has been turned into and is still continuing to be turned into one big Slum.

Building Garbage Plants are not the only means of clearing the Garbage. Educating the public and advertisements should also play a major part.

Penalising & fining those that flout the rules should be made more stringent too.
