Is Mickky's GVP inducted to checkmate MGP?

GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 14 November 2014 12:08 IST

Is Mickky Pacheco’s induction in the cabinet a reward for his work in Lok Sabha election or a checkmate to the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party, which is becoming pain in the neck to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party?

“We fought Lok Sabha election together with Pacheco’s Goa Vikas Party and with the support of independents like Avertan Furtado and Benjamin Silva,” said Laxmikant Parsekar, the chief minister.

Filling the two vacant slots, Parsekar is expanding his cabinet tomorrow by inducting Furtado, a former fisheries minister and Pacheco, another induction from Salcete.

“It makes four ministers from minorities and two from Salcete, in my 12-member cabinet”, states Parsekar, throwing a 33 per cent figure at the media showing their concern for the Christian community.

The Christian ministers in the Parsekar government would be now – deputy chief minister Francis D’Souza, Alina Saldanha, Furtado and Pacheco.

However, political pundits feel there is much more to it.

The three-member MGP, which was a joint partner of the ruling BJP while fighting the 2012 Assembly election, is reportedly creating problems for the saffron party.

Dhawalikar brothers - PWD minister Sudin and co-operation minister Dipak - have been cornering the saffron partner without leaving a single opportunity.

The nation-wide controversies over banning bikinis on Goan beaches and making public appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make India a Hindu Rashtra were created by both these senior MGP leaders, allegedly to embarrass their ‘big brother’ in the government.

It is learnt that the BJP is systematically cutting ‘financial wings’ of their ruling partner by diverting major infrastructural contracts, may it be stadiums for Lusofonia, expansion of highways into four and six lanes or the new bridges and flyovers on the express highways.

While Lusofonia infrastructure was built by Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (then headed by former chief minister Manohar Parrikar), most of the contracts on the express highway are also being diverted from PWD to the GSIDC.

The BJP, having 21 in the 40-member House, is supported by three-member MGP, two-member GVP and four independents – Furtado and Silva from Salcete, Rohan Khaunte from Porvorim and Naresh Sawal from Bicholim.

“Induction of Pacheco and Furtado would make our government more stable”, said chief minister Parsekar, though he did not elaborate on it.

Both of them would get their portfolios tomorrow after their induction. However, Parsekar plans to distribute the portfolios to his existing nine-member team today itself, before the Salcete duo is inducted.

He has apparently finalised all the portfolios in consultation with newly inducted defence minister Manohar Parrikar.

Mickky's GVP inducted is to checkmate MGP like BJP did for Shiv Sena by inducting NCP in Maharashtra. BJP has became matured and well playing politics. BJP want to finish the coalition politics era. BJP shunned its natural ally MGP & Shiv Sena to make it a reality of 1 party Government.
