Lusofonia drivers to be 'verified'

PTI, PANAJI | 23 August 2013 19:05 IST

The state transport department will verify the background of around 500 drivers before they are recruited to ply the vehicles which will be hired for the forthcoming Lusofonia Games scheduled in November.

Over 550 vehicles will be hired by the department for the games to ferry VIPs, sportsmen and other guests, director of transport Arun Desai told reporters yesterday.

The drivers would be absorbed into service only after their criminal background is cross checked by the department, which is responsible for the transport arrangements for the Portuguese Commonwealth Games.

The department has already floated tender for 550 air conditioned vehicles including 450 cars and 80 buses with 45 seats each and another 30 buses with 14-35 seating capacity. Those winning the contract will have to provide drivers for the vehicles, Desai said.

The vehicles will also go through a screening and mechanical checks before okaying it for the event, he added.

The state-owned Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited will also deploy 100 buses to ferry spectators to the stadiums.

Any Advice from the Goa State Government ,for the Rip-off & cut -throat Taxi Merchants in Goa, during in the games?.

In any case, and going by the Commonwealth Games attendances, there are likely to be more "Goa Government Officials" than visiting Foreign officials of participating Nations or ordinary Goans.

The extra ordinary services of Vishnu Surya Wagh ,may be required, to fill up all the empty seats with children from various Goan schools. His hospitality towards Portuguese speaking peoples is legendary. He is in harmony with 21st and modern day realities.

I hope Mr Dyanand Narvekar and Mr Phadke (ex-GCA) have not been delegated with the task & responsibility of Printing the Tickets. This is advisable so as to avoid the clash of "Official Ticket " and "Black Market Tickets".

Since Goa Police will either be busy watching the Games keenly or diligently making Hafta somewhere, it would be recommended to put on stand-by the surplus "Bouncers" now available in Goa". I am sure many Goan MLA`s could provide their best & cream of Bouncers ,for this very purpose.

Many athletes these days, are well known to consume banned substances & drugs & steroids to enhance their performance's. They can be assured there will be no shortage of these. Once again, Goa has an ample surplus of these drugs. They will be available anytime anywhere.

I expect there will also be an increase in Garbage & litter during these Games. For this the Government should put special Status on hold and bring in Migrants to assist with the cleaning. As a reward, they could all be given a plot in Goa`s slums...followed by Ration cards etc.

Mauvin Godinho, known to be the King of Slums will have no hesitation assisting. He could be assisted by Digamber Kamat.

The visiting athletes and Officials should be treated to a Goan Tiatr as a must. One featuring Francis de Tuem, Mickky Pacheco and Churchill Alemao would be a sell -out and leave them with lasting memories of Goa.

Those Guests, not keen on Tiatrs should be given a lengthy Poetic recital by Vishnu Surya Wagh... in Marathi.
