Goa to pay homage to martyrs tomorrow on Revolution Day

Goa will pay homage to martyrs who fought for Goa liberation, on the occasion of Goa Revolution Day tomorrow.

The day is observed in memory of Dr Ram Manohar Lohia giving a clarion call on 18 June 1946 in Margao, following which the last phase of Goan liberation had started against the colonial Portuguese rule.

Governor Bharat Vir Wanchoo will lead the State in paying tributes to the freedom fighters at the Martyrs Memorial at Azad Maidan in Panaji tomorrow morning.

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, President of Goa, Daman and Diu Freedom Fighters Association Nagesh Karmali and President of Freedom Fighters Association Goa Chandrakant Kenkre will also speak on the occasion.

Functions have also been organised in Margao and Ponda as well as at Aguada jail and martyrs' memorial at Patradevi.

 

Fisheries Minister Avertano Furtado will pay homage to the memory of freedom fighters and place wreath at the statue of Lohia in at Lohia Maidan in Margao.

Similarly, Transport Minister Sudin Dhawalikar will perform the ceremony at Kranti Maidan in Ponda.

On the occasion, Governor Wanchoo has extended his warm and heartiest greetings to the people of Goa.

Liberation provided tremendous avenues and opportunities for the people of Goa to achieve all-round progress.  However, Goa has still many miles to go on the ever-challenging and never-ending path of greater prosperity and development, he said.

Chief Minister Parrikar has also extended greetings and appealed to all Goans to rededicate themselves and work hand in hand with renewed zeal and vigour to achieve greater prosperity of the state and make it a model state in the country.
