Multifaceted Vishnu Wagh no more

Multifaceted personality Vishnu Surya Wagh expired in Cape Town of South Africa, after a prolonged illness since August 2016.
He was 53.
His wife Aruna, when phoned, confirmed that he breathed his last peacefully while they were touring South Africa as per his last wish.
After completing all the formalities, she is expecting to arrive with his body by Friday, 15th February to conduct last rites in Goa.
Proficient in literary skills to oratory, Wagh was elected the MLA of St Andre on BJP ticket in 2012.
During his term, he was the deputy speaker of Goa Assembly as well as Chairman of Kala Academy.
His political career started with Shivsena for a brief period, after which he shifted to the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party and then joined the Congress under the leadership of Ravi Naik.
Before joining politics, he had joined journalism, beginning his career with Newsline, an English newspaper started by Tarun Bharat. After the sudden closure of the English daily, he joined Tarun Bharat in Belgaum.
He then arrived in Goa to take over as the Editor of Gomantak, Goa’s then leading Marathi daily. He then also tried to run a Marathi eveninger Vartaman.
Before joining active politics, he was closely associated with Brahmanand Swami of Tapohumi.
However, while shifting his interests from journalism to politics, he remained consistent with his literary and theatre talent.
Wagh, son of Goa’s great theatre personality Surya Wagh from Dongri, Mandur, has to his credit several books of poetry as well as Konkani and Marathi dramas.
His Marathi drama Tuka Abhang Abhang as well as his poetry collection Sudir Sukt had raised controversies in Goa as well as Maharashtra.
He has won many awards for his literary works as well his skills in theatre including script writing as well as acting.
During his political career, Wagh was the vice chairman and then Chairman of Goa Kala Academy, Vice Chairman of Entertainment Society of Goa as well as Deputy Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly.
