Case against Babu for 'corrupt' wealth of Rs 5.55 Cr
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 30 April 2013 19:34 IST

The Anti Corruption Bureau has prepared a case against Congress MLA Babu Kavalekar for amassing disproportionate assets and buying property worth Rs 5.55 crore in Kerala.
Babu would be now summoned to ACB in couple of days for preliminary inquiry, ACB SP Bosco George told goanews.com.
The ACB has ascertained that the Quepem MLA has amassed the disproportionate wealth as the chairman of Industrial Development Corporation, during the erstwhile Congress regime.
George says he has purchased at least 15 to 20 properties – mainly agricultural and non-agricultural land – in various places in Kerala.
It amounts to Rs 5,54,56,251 – roughly Rs 5.55 crore.
According to George, Babu had not declared these purchases before the Election authorities while contesting last Assembly election held in March last year.
“We had gathered the information through our sources about his wealth in Kerala”, he said.
The ACB cross-checked the information of his wealth it sought from the joint chief electoral officer and found that these purchases were not declared, George told goanews.com.
“We will now summon him to ascertain it once again before we file the FIR”, said George.
Babu had served three terms as the IDC chairman – for almost 79 months or roughly six and a half years.
It started with one month-term in 2005 from 2 March to 7 April, then from July 2005 to May 2007 and lastly from June 2007 to February 2012.
George said Babu is suspected to have amassed this wealth through corrupt means and unknown sources.
This is the first corruption case being filed against a Congressman since BJP came to power one year ago on anti-corruption wave.

Babu also bought so many properties in Goa too, no mention of that. I wonder if this investigation is going to see the light of the day or it will be hushed up through close door political give and take.
What about the other congress guys, e.g. Monserat, Rane, Churchill, Ravi Naik, etc. When are they going to be charged?
