Mah NCP prefers toll than entry tax

Nationalist Congress Party prefers a toll for vehicles like Maharashtra than the entry tax and total exemption of vehicles from the neighbouring districts of Karnataka and Maharashtra.
Dipak Kesarkar, the NCP leader from Sindhudurg, today opined that the vehicles from neighbouring districts like Sindhudurg from Maharashtra and Karwar and Belgaum from Karnataka should be completely exempted.
“We in Sindhudurg do not charge vehicle tax for Goan vehicles in order to promote our tourism”, observed Kesarkar.
He felt Goa government should not spoil relations with the neighbouring states, especially in the border areas by imposing such taxes as people keep on crossing border in these areas.
He however welcomed Goa government’s decision to introduce tax for building infrastructure.
Even in Mahabaleshwar and Matheran, the local municipalities charge such fees in order to maintain the environment of the hill stations, he observed.
Rathern than charging one-time heavy entry tax, he opined that Goa could charge small fees like Rs 50 on important roads and bridges.
Kesarkar also informed that he has conveyed his opinions at the meetings held with chief minister Manohar Parrikar and PWD minister Sudin Dhawalikar.
They have assured to introduce concessional rates for the neighbouring areas, on the other hand, he said.
“I will give my proper reaction only after Goa government declares its final decision in this regard”, said Kesarkar.
