Ahmedabad-based Greendiamz Private Ltd, which produces eco-friendly biodegradable packaging material, has decided to expand its presence in west India by launching its product in Goa.
"The product is a fully compostable and 100 per cent bio-degradable plastic-like material, which is made from starch derived from maize, corn or waste wheat in the company's state-of-art manufacturing facility in Ahmedabad," Deepak Sanghvi, Managing Director, Greendiamz Private Limited, told reporters here yesterday.
The material is made from compostable polymers, which have similar or better mechanical properties compared to the conventional plastics and can be processed on the same machine without any modification.
Sanghvi said the product has been launched in Goa considering the fact that Goans are very sensitive towards the environment and the state government has been providing support for environment friendly initiatives.
The company has tied up with Mangalore-based Anvesh Group to market the product and also intends to commission its plant in Goa if there is proper support from the local government.
"The products that we prepare are certified by Central Institute of Plastic Engineering and Technology, Chennai, and Indian Institute of Packaging, Mumbai," he said.
