Ponda truckers join anti-entry tax boycott

Ponda Goods Transporters’ Association, a group of truckers of national permit registered outside Goa, will also keep their vehicles off the road from tomorrow (Monday) to support the truckers’ ‘Boycott Goa’ action in protest of entry tax.

The truckers also made a revelation that entering or exiting Goa would now cost them not less than Rs 1200 every time as, besides entry tax, they also need to pay to the police, excise and RTO officials underhand.

Sayyad Pasha, secretary of the Association, declared at a press conference today evening that they will not operate in Goa till the government rolls back on imposition of entry tax.

The PGTA had a meeting of its members today evening in Ponda.

The Association has around 300 members and the vehicles mainly carry the industrial goods in and outside Goa.

The industrial transportation may thus affect severely in Goa.

Pasha also complained that Goa government is charging entry tax without providing any proper infrastructure for smooth operation of vehicles.

The Association however welcomed entry tax, provided the state government builds parallel bridge at Zuari river, allowing transportation of heavy vehicles.

“We don’t mind paying a toll of even Rs 300 on the bridge as it would save almost Rs 800 we pay on extra diesel we pay to travel via Ponda”, said Pasha.

Person/s with conscience should challenge these evil of our society and if one is right why pay hafta to any body ?

that was the whole argument of tom dick and harry and co. that in goa beside entry tax they have to pay hafta to several govt agencies like police, trafic, RTO, pollution, excise and so on who claim it to collect on behalf of "right up" indicating Parrikar himself. What they were saying was they dont mind paying if Govt gives concession in hafta. If parrikar gives up his share in it or make the govt agencies reduce hafta to the extent of the "right up" share then there is no problem. Parrikar is not ready to do that. instead he is threatening them in most uncivilised manner. further it strengthen the doubt that he indeed has a share in the hafta.
