Lokayukta Justice Reddy sworn in at Goa Raj Bhavan
Justice B Sudarshan Reddy was today sworn in as Goa’s first Lokayukta amidst protests by the opposition parties and NGOs.
The opposition Congress MLAs also boycotted the swearing in ceremony held at Raj Bhavan today evening.
In fact, besides Congressmen, the group of Goa’s few opposition parties and NGOs, under the banner ‘Together for Goa’, staged a black flag demonstration at Dona Paula, little away from the Raj Bhavan.
Though Justice Reddy refused to reply to any questions from the media, he appealed to the media persons to help him as a source of information to curb the menace of corruption.
“With my experience of 42 years, I believe I would be able to serve Goa to the best of my abilities”, said Justice Reddy.
He plans to start his work within a week.
Governor Bharat Vir Wanchoo administered Justice Reddy the oath of office at the Durbar hall.
Chief minister Manohar Parrikar, Deputy chief minister Francisco D’Souza, Advocate General Atmaram Nadkarni, Chief Secretary B Vijayan as well as family members of Justice Reddy were present at the ceremony.
Justice Reddy’s appointment is caught up in a controversy as Together for Goa has alleged that he has been appointed without following a proper procedure.
They had even urged the Governor yesterday not to give him oath.
