Lokayukta to be sworn in on 16 March, CM receives AAP draft
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 13 March 2013 19:31 IST

Justice B Sudarshan Reddy will take over as Goa’s first Lokayukta on 16 March as one Lokayukta amendment bill is pending before the Governor for assent and another draft of amendments has reached the chief minister.
The cabinet today decided to set up Lokayukta office with a staff of 36 employees.
“Governor Bharat Vir Wanchoo will administer oath to Justice Reddy at Raj Bhavan on 16 March evening”, announced chief minister Manohar Parrikar.
The Lokayukta would be armed with a DySP level police officer and other police personnel as well as other administrative staff of 26.
The Lokayukta would be temporarily accommodated at the old education department building but would be ultimately shifted to the Old Goa Medical College building at Ribandar.
Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party today submitted the chief minister a draft of amendments to the Lokayukta act on the lines of Uttarakhand act, prepared by AAP leader Adv Prashant Bhushan.
Local AAP leader Dinesh Waghela, along with Walmiky Naik, presented him the draft after the cabinet meeting.
“I will consider their amendments once I receive it”, said Parrikar at the cabinet briefing.
He has assured the AAP leaders to study the draft and act accordingly.
On the other hand, the amendment bill passed in the Assembly last month is still pending before the Governor for assent.
Parrikar also confirmed that the assent is still awaited.
There is a demand that the controversial amendment bill should not be assented to.
