Kins of headmistress were not in Vasco: Sardinha
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 28 February 2013 21:16 IST

The government prosecution has dismissed the theory of cover up by Goa police in Vasco rape case by not interrogating son and nephew of the school headmistress.
Adv Aires Rodrigues, in the Children's Court, had alleged that the real culprits behind the rape on a minor are the son and nephew of the headmistress.
He had contended that the rape victim had identified both of them coming to the school on several occasions.
Public prosecutor Sarojini Sardinha, while arguing on behalf of the crime branch of Goa police, told the court that the police had interrogated not even son of the headmistress but even his girl friend.
The son of headmistress, studying in Bangalore, was in Goa on 14 Jaunary, when the rape incident took place.
But the police have verified through his mobile location as well as through their neighbours that the son was in Velim, repairing their ancestral house the whole day.
In fact she even produced evidence that the son, when the rape took place in Vasco, was talking to his girl friend from Velim.
"Both of them were interrogated by the police", Sardinha told the court.
Regarding the story floating around about the nephew of the headmistress, Sardinha said he is born and brought up in Kolhapur and presently lives in Dubai.
The police have verified the fact through the union ministry of home affairs as well as Dabolim air port that the nephew was in Dubai on 14 January and hand not landed at Dabolim air port on 14 January.
Children's court president also then stated that there are no grounds not to believe the prosecution or the crime branch and adjourned the hearing.
The case has been filed by minor rape victim's father while the school authorities have suspended the headmistress as well a teacher and a clerk for negligence in the case.
