The panchayat election results showed most of the new victorious faces, but many of them have also claimed to be Bharatiya Janata Party supporters.

There are equally large numbers of elected members, who have preferred to remain independent.

The counting picked up speed by evening and counting of almost all the panchayats was completed by late evening.

Rumdamol in Salcete taluka became a unique panchayat, where voters defeated all the sitting panchas.

Even in Raia, again in Salcete, 10 out of 11 elected members are first-timers.

In many places in Salcete and Mormugao, people’s forums got victorious in most of the wards.

In Cansaulim, where late Cortalim MLA Matanhy Saldanha had formed Cansaulim Forum, won eight out of nine wards.

Most of the elected groups have claimed that they belong to the BJP, presently the ruling party.

Last time, most of the victorious groups had claimed to be the Congress-supporting groups, when the Congress was ruling the state.

Siddhesh Naik, son of BJP’s North Goa MP Shripad Naik, however had to face a miserable defeat in Old Goa panchayat.
