3rd life imprisonment for Mahanand

Serial dupatta killer Mahanand Naik got a third life imprisonment, this time for killing Yogita Naik in 2009.
He has already been sentenced to life imprisonment in two more cases in the past.
The case pertains to Yogita Naik from Nagzar, Kurti in Ponda taluka.
The girl, in 2009, was killed by Mahanand in 2009 while robbing her gold ornaments worth Rs 80,000.
He had promised all these girls to get married to them and then killing them by wrapping their own dupatta around their necks.
The punishment was pronounced by Panaji district and sessions court.
He was otherwise acquitted in seven cases earlier, including heard by judge Nutan Sardesai, for lack of evidence.
Mahanand has been accused of killing 18 women in 15 years.
The horrifying act had come to light when Mahanand was arrested in 2009 in a rape case. He has already been sentenced to seven-year rigorous imprisonment in the rape case.
The modus operandi of Mahanand was to lure girls from economically weaker background with a marriage proposal, take them to secluded places, rape them, steal their gold ornaments and then kill them by wrapping their own dupatta around their neck.
