150 Covid19 deaths in August, highest on Independence Day

GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 03 September 2020 22:25 IST

The death rate of Covid is frightening, even in Goa. In one month of August, we have lost 150 Goenkar, out of 212 deaths reported till date since 22 June. It means, on an average, we have lost five people every day.

And in the last three days, we have lost 17 lives.

Though the death rate was quite low initially with four people dying of Covid in the last eight days of June, the month of July was also not so frightening. We lost 41 lives.

But in the month of August, the highest number of lives we lost was on the Independence Day, 9 deaths. And on the second day of September, we lost 10 lives in one single day.

Like the trend worldwide, Goa has fortunately seen minimal death rate among the females. In August itself, Goa lost 35 females and 115 males.

MONTH-WISE COVID DEATHS

MONTH DEATHS %
June (8 Days) 4 0.13
July 41 1.37
August 150 5.00
September 17 0.57
TOTAL 212

If you feel that the maximum deaths would be Mormugao taluka or Vasco city, then you are wrong. Mormugao taluka reported 33 deaths while the Vasco city reported 28 deaths in the month of August. Zuarinagar was only two in August and total six deaths till date.

Maximum number in August however comes from the equally densely populated Salcete taluka, with 43 deaths, 34 out of which came from one Madgao city alone.

Comparatively, most of the talukas have not crossed single digit. The taluka-wise death count in August is Tiswadi 24, Ponda 16 and Bardez 13. The rest are Bicholim 5, Pedne, Sanguem and Quepem 4 each and one each in Canacona and Dharbandora.

Goa also reported one death of a person from West Bengal and one unknown person.

In last three days, the death rate is fluctuating. After four deaths on 1st September, the number zoomed up to 10 on the second day. On 3rd September, till now, three deaths are reported. But sometimes the number gets added up in the next day’s bulletin.
