Varsha’s ‘dream’ to act in a Konkani film still unfulfilled

Varsha Usgaonkar, eminent Bollywood actor of Goan origin, is still left with a dream to act in a Konkani film, even after acting in several Hindi, Marathi and Bhojpuri films.
She expressed this desire while she was honoured with Kritadnyata Award at the ninth edition of Marathi Film Festival, organised in Goa every year by Vinsan World.
In fact she began her speech in Konkani, stating that her mother tongue is on the highest pedestal in her mind among all the languages.
“I had acted in a film called ‘It’s My Life’ but it was somehow not released. I am still waiting for a role in a Konkani film, which would be released”, said Varsha, who is primarily known as a Hindi and Marathi actor.
The Film Fest was inaugurated by India’s eminent film director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, whose first Marathi film ‘Lal Ishk’ opened the festival today evening.
Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, on the occasion, assured annual grants to the Vinsan Academy of Film and Media started by Vinsan World, with a six-month certificate course in filmmaking.
He also announced that the long-pending film finance scheme would be notified by next week.
The ninth edition of Marathi Film Festival would screen total 16 films, including national-award Konkani film ‘Enemy?’.
It also includes three Marathi premiers as well as prominent Marathi films which have bagged national awards this year.
