Second autopsy of Fr Bismarque ordered as body injuries still a mystery

The Goa Medical College hospital will go for a second autopsy of Fr Bismarque Dias, who was found drowned in a river at his St Estevam village.

North Goa Additional Collector Swapnil Naik passed an order in this regard late last night.

A representation in this regard was made by relatives of Fr Bismarque.

The GMC dean has agreed to constitute a panel of three experts to conduct the second post-mortem, Goa Bachao Abhiyan convenor Sabina Martins told goanews.com.

According to his relatives, the injuries identified in the inquest panchanama were not shown in the autopsy report that was conducted yesterday.

Sudeep Dalvi and Florian Lobo, two activists, were the witnesses at the inquest panchanama conducted by the police before Fr Bismarque’s body was sent for the post-mortem.

Fr Bismarque, a priest-turned-activist, was found drowned in the village river near Babhol Manos.

After having drinks along with two young boys on Thursday evening, according to police, he had gone for swim post-midnight and never came back to the shore.

The incident came to light when villagers found his clothes, mobile phone and a two wheeler on the shore on Friday morning.

The local villagers found his body floating in the waters on Saturday morning.

Fr Bismarque was a social activist and was even receiving threat to his life, according to Sabina Martins, convenor of GBA.

The autopsy of the body of late priest should now be done after consulting stake holders and after taking people into confidence. I am afraid this unfortunate incident will be given a communal tinge as BJP govt is at state and centre. Govt should bear all the exps of autopsy and let the relatives and supporters of late priest conduct autopsy at any place of their choice.

Will there be at least a symbolic inquiry about the person/s concerned responsible for this blatant lapse?

Hope the second autopsy is not just a copy and paste exercise to shut some mouths.

People should keep their emotions down and allow the law and the due process to take its course. Let the facts come out and then say what you have got to say--especially from distance, and from hearsay and gossip. It is very easy and convenient to say this and that-- but it may not be the truth. Let us have patience.
