Patnekar’s Ghar Vapasi in BJP makes Sawal bite dust in Bicholim

GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 27 October 2015 11:37 IST

The Ghar Vapasi of Rajesh Patnekar made Bicholim independent MLA Naresh Sawal bite dust in the municipal election, with BJP-backed panel winning 10 out of 12 seats.

Realising the changing mood, Sawal had not openly supported any candidate but his supporters claimed to be independents.

The ruling BJP had however openly fielded candidates in all the 12 wards.

The BJP’s shrewd move to bring back Patnekar, who was two-time BJP MLA but had joined the Congress in 2012 Assembly election, seems to have worked successfully.

“This is a victory of the unity of BJP workers and this victory would continue till 2017 Assembly election”, Patnekar told goanews.com.

He however skilfully avoided the question whether he would be the BJP candidate in Bicholim once again.

Patnekar, who had joined the Congress with the support of Vishwajeet Rane, had to face a humiliating defeat in the last Assembly election.

Sawal, who was otherwise Rane’s man earlier, had won the Assembly election as an independent.

The independent MLA may join the MGP bandwagon in next Assembly poll, making the Bicholim election much more interesting.
