Patnekar brought back to BJP, to win civic polls of Bicholim

GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 07 October 2015 21:07 IST

On the eve of municipal elections, Rajesh Patnekar today returned to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, quitting Congress.

Local BJP chief Vinay Tendulkar, while welcoming his Ghar Vapasi, claimed he has come back unconditionally.

“Patnekar’s home coming will not affect Shilpa Naik. We had projected her only for Zilla Panchayat elections, not the Assembly poll”, he said.

In what was considered to be the most prestigious fight in ZP polls, Naik had lost the poll.

Former BJP MLA Patnekar had also lost last Assembly election, as a Congress candidate, in 2012.

But Tendulkar has still not confirmed his candidature from Bicholim, for the next Assembly poll.

“We will decide about it when election comes, not now”, he said.

Patnekar however said his workers would join in large number before municipal election.

It is clear that Patnekar is brought back with immediate target of forthcoming municipal election, scheduled on 25 October.

Admitting that his calculation went wrong when he joined the Congress to contest 2012 election, the two-time former BJP legislator said today’s Congress is nothing but a big confusion.

BJP’s Bicholim Mandal president Vallabh Salkar and other office bearers were also present at the BJP office in Panaji, to welcome him formally.
