Gaurish Malik, a police sub-inspector of Pernem police station, shot himself in the chest today morning.

He was rushed to the Goa Medical College hospital, where he is being treated.

“He is still unconscious, but doctors tell us he is stable and heart and lungs are not damaged”, North Goa SP Umesh Gaonkar told goanews.com.

According to reports, Malik in a private car suddenly arrived at Nhaibag-Satarda check post at 7.45 today morning, shouted ‘call ambulance’ and shot himself in the chest.

The staff at the check post rushed him to the GMC hospital.

Malik, who was recently transferred from Panaji to Pernem police station, had not reported to duty yesterday.

He was disturbed for quite some months, probably due to some personal affair, and was missing for some days when he was working at Panaji police station.

Police had then traced him at Shirdi.

Earlier a police constable, Malik had passed the PSI exam and was a fresh recruit.
