Humble Info office Shekhar Mayekar passed away

Known for his simple and humble attitude, Shekhar Mayekar, former Information Officer of Goa government, passed away tonight after a prolonged illness.

He was 59.

He had taken voluntary retirement last year due to his ill health.

In his career spanning 32 years in the Information Department, Mayenkar  held different positions such as the Information Assistant, Assistant Information Officer  and Information Officer.

He joined the Department on 3 July 1981 as Information Assistant and was subsequently promoted as Assistant Information Officer and then the Information officer.

He started his career with the Marathi daily Navprabha before joining the government service.

He was also actively involved in Goa’s students’ movement during his college days, especially the All Goa Students’ Union, then led by Adv Satish Sonak and others.

As a media officer, Mayenkar  handled Publicity, Publications, Administration, Field Publicity, Schemes and whole lot of issues concerning the dissemination of  information to the press Media offices.

As the media officer, he also  covered several functions of VIPs and VVIPs including President of India, Vice President of India, Prime Minister, Speaker and important dignitaries visiting Goa.

He was associated with the visit of Pope John Paul –II (St. John Paul), CHOG-M retreat, visit of Mother Tereza and other important events in the state.

शेखरची बातमी मन विषण्ण गकरणारी....काॅलेजमध्ये वर्गमित्र होतो....सख्य कायम होतं... क्वचितच शेखरबाबत कुणाची तक्रार असावी...एक चांगला 'माणूस ' आपल्यातून गेला.
