After arrest of Sameer Gaikwad of Sanatan Saunstha in Com Govind Pansare murder case, the SIT team of Maharashtra has now once again started searching for two absconders in the Margao bomb blast case of 2009.

Two dailies published form Maharashtra – Maharashtra Times and Lokmat – have stated that the Special Investigation Team is suspecting links of Rudra Patil and Sarang Dilip Akolkar alias Kulkarni – both absconders – with Sameer.

Reports state that the SIT has found evidence of Sameer having been in touch with both – Rudra and Sarang, belonging to the Hindu right wing outfits.

The SIT today raided residence of Rudra in Jat taluka as well as other places in Miraj.

The Indian Express report states that Sarang was the Pune district convenor of Hindu Janjagaran Samiti.

The police had seized almost 23 mobile phones from Sameer’s Mumbai and Sangli homes, besides a diary of all the contacts and other literature.

In addition, Jyoti Kamble, Sameer’s girlfriend, has deposed before a magistrate under Section 164 CrPC, providing lots of details, which are not yet disclosed by the police.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has also come down to Kolhapur, where Com Pansare was murdered, to assist the local SIT.

Maharashtra Times report states that the NIA had interrogated even Sameer in the Margao bomb blast case, while assisting Goa SIT.

On 16 October 2009, on the eve of Diwali, Malgonda Patil and Yogesh Naik, two Sadhak of Sanatan Saunstha, were killed as the crude bombs they carried in Margao exploded in the scooter they were riding.

Though this horrifying incident had raised a strong suspicion that the plan was to plant these bombs at the municipal garden, where the Narakasur competition was going on, the special court of Mapusa finally acquitted all the six accused in the case in 2013.

Rudra is believed to be the cousin of Malgonda, who got killed in the bomb-explosion.

The SIT has disclosed that one of the SIM cards of Sameer was found to be active where Pansare was killed on 16 February this year in Kolhapur.

The police also admitted that the sketch of the assailant, prepared using enhanced CCTV footage and inputs from Pansare’s wife Uma, “almost matched” Gaikwad, stated a news report of The Indian Express.
