Six independent students are elected unopposed today at Goa University’s Post Graduate Students’ Union election, posing a serious threat to the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad.
Elections for the rest of 14 seats would be held tomorrow, 11 September.
ABVP is the students’ wing of ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.
The independents are supported by two non-political students’ organisations – Voice of Students and Goa Rakhan Manch.
The trend of fighting against political students’ organisations has started at the Goa University since last year.
The group of independents had won 11 out of 20 seats last year at PGSU election.
This year, six students are already elected unopposed.
Following are the winners:
Part I of Social Science:
Digwesh Naik, Ambika Dias and Usman Khan. All 3 seats are elected unopposed.
Part II of Social Science:
Julius Mendes and Swapnesh Gaonkar. Both seats are elected unopposed.
Part II of Languages:
Gaargi Bhat. Only one seat and it is elected unopposed.
