Drug-accused Israeli's attempt to escape foiled

An Israeli undertrial today made an abortive bid to escape from a government run hospital here with help of another foreign national but the attempt was foiled by police.

Israeli national Nariya Bendavid, who is currently being tried for possessing drugs, tried to escape from police custody when he was brought for a medical check up at Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour (IPHB) near here, police said.

Another foreign national Naftali Samuel, who had come to help Nariya escape from the custody, allegedly attacked police constables with pepper spray and assaulted them, they said.

Naftali had arranged for a car and bike to facilitate the escape and had parked it near IPHB, police added.



According to them, while Naftali who was on bike was tracked down near Goa Medical college and hospital while Narali was arrested almost 40 kms away near Ponda town.

Police suspected involvement of third person in the attempted escape, which will be revealed only after the interrogation.
