Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar today announced that an anti-terrorism squad (ATS) has been set up in the state.
The 110-member strong (ATS) force has been trained by the Maharashtra police on various aspects, including intelligence gathering, the Chief Minister said.
"Members of this force have been trained in intelligence, technical aspect and operational capabilities. The squad would be available round-the-clock and can counter any kind of emergency," Parsekar added.
He also announced a number of measures for women and senior citizens in distress, so that they can get the help of the police.
A special desk for women would be set up in each police station, which will be operated by the woman staff, Parsekar said adding that the state government will recruit 300 women personnel, including 79 police sub inspectors, who would handle these desks round the clock.
According to him, the state police has also announced a helpline for complaint against corrupt police officers that will be functional round the clock.
"If any police officer is indulging in extortion, then a complaint can be lodged on this helpline," he said.
The Chief Minister also stated that a helpline would be launched for the senior citizens in distress on December 19, which is state's Liberation Day.
