9 high speed trains including Goa-Mumbai @160 km/hr

The first railway budget of Narendra Modi government has announced one bullet train to Gujarat and nine high speed trains connecting major metros, including a Goa-Mumbai route.
While presenting the maiden budget, railway minister D V Sadanand Gowda said the high speed trains will have a speed of 160-200 kilometres per hour.
While reminding the House about former BJP Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s plan of Golden Quadrilateral Road Network, Gowda said: “Today, under the leadership of Shri Narendra Modiji, we are embarking on an ambitious plan to have a Diamond Quadrilateral Network of High Speed Rail, connecting major Metros and growth centres of the country.”
He informed the House that a provision of Rs 100 crore has been made in this Budget for high Speed project to RVNL / HSRC (High Speed Rail Corridor) for taking further steps.
The nine routes identified for the fast speed trains, to begin with, are:
i) Delhi-Agra
ii) Delhi-Chandigarh
iii) Delhi-Kanpur
iv) Nagpur-Bilaspur
v) Mysore-Bengaluru-Chennai
vi) Mumbai-Goa
vii) Mumbai-Ahmedabad
viii) Chennai-Hyderabad and
ix) Nagpur-Secunderabad.
Regarding the bullet train, Gowda said: “It is the wish and dream of every Indian that India runs a bullet train as early as possible. Madam Speaker, Indian Railways is on its way to fulfil that long cherished dream. We propose bullet trains by starting off with an already identified Mumbai-Ahmedabad sector, where a number of studies have been done.”
