Tejpal remanded to 6-day police custody

Rape accused and high profile journalist Tarun Tejpal was today remanded to six-day police custody.
He was arrested last night after his anticipatory bail application was rejected by the Panaji district and sessions court.
He was produced before the Panaji Judicial Magistrate First Class Shama Joshi for a remand.
The police had demanded 14-day police custody, which after the arguments by Tejpal’s lawyer was reduced to six days.
Tejpal has been accused of rape, rape by a person of a woman in his custody taking advantage of his official position, committing persistent sexual assault and outraging modesty.
His interrogation would begin from today at the crime branch office at Dona Paula, after which he will be sent to Panaji town police station to spend nights in the lock up.
Contrary to media reports nationwide that he was interrogated even before he was arrested, police sources said he has not been interrogated till date.
He was sent to Panaji police station lock up at around 2 am today morning, after medical examination at the Goa Medical College hospital post-midnight.
He was formally arrested, while sitting at the crime branch, at 9 pm yesterday.
The high profile founder editor of Tehelka has been accused of sexually assault his junior colleague at Grand Hyatt at Bambolim, for two consecutive nights, on 7 and 8 November, during THiNK Fest, organised by the national news magazine.
