Goa government today avoided the demand of holding half an hour discussion on the controversial issue of alleged irregularities in tendering of infrastructure of Lusofonia Games as well as the allegedly tainted consultant.
Fatorda MLA Vijay Sardesai, who raised the issue in the Assembly, in fact expressed surprise that his Calling Attention Motion was taken up as a Zero Hour mention.
Speaker Rajendra Arlekar did not allow any further discussion on the issue, after sports minister Ramesh Tawadkar denied the charges.
“I will not allow any discussion on Zero Hour mention. You sit down”, he told Sardesai.
Regarding the allegedly tainted consultant, chief minister Manohar Parrikar said the vigilance department is probing into the allegations of his background.
The consultant is allegedly blacklisted due to his involvement in the scandal of Common Wealth Games.
“Mere remark on the consultant in the CAG report cannot debar him and this is purely a professional rivalry”, said Parrikar, giving clean chit to the consultant even before the vigilance report is complete.
Regarding the alleged irregularities in tendering process, Tawadkar suggested to Sardesai to study all the three volumes of tender documents dealing with 700 items, before making any allegation.
The consultant was appointed during Congress regime, he said, denying involvement of his government into it.
“But we have completed the whole infrastructure in record time of eight months”, he told the House.
