Police hides own lapses, blames landlord in Bhatkal case

Goa police has preferred to blame the landlord for not giving vital information regarding Yasin Bhatkal but not his own officers for the lapses on their part.

Bhatkal, who was staying in Goa for the last two years, could be nabbed easily if the police was alert.

But Goa DIG O P Mishra, even after these series of lapses, expresses ignorance even about Goa police receiving Bhatkal’s photograph from the intelligent agencies.

“I will find out and let you know whether we had received his photograph”, said Mishra, replying to media’s query.

There are reports coming from port town of Vasco that Bhatkal had tried to woon some Goan youth to join the Indian Mujahideen, but missing reports of their sons by the parents were simply ignored by the police.

“I don’t want to go by media reports. I will take action only after the official report comes”, he said, dismissing even the TV media reports.

However, he simply refused to say whether his department is probing into the lapses committed by his own officials.

“I don’t want to comment on Bhatkal case since the matter is being probed by the National Intelligence Agency”, Mishra took a guraded position to avoid all the embarassing questions from the media.

However, he was prompt enough to blame the landlord, who had rented out his house in Anjuna to Bhatkal, for not informing the police about the acid bottles Bhatkal had left behind.

Chief minister Manohar Parrikar had earlier told the media that the acid bottles and other material found in Bhatkal’s rented room was meant for preparing bombs.

Mishra has appealed to all the Goans through the media (whose reports he does not believe in), to supply all the information and check the credentials of the people whom the houses or rooms are rented out to.
