Mayor-CM war heats up, jetty work stopped

The war between Panaji Mayor and Panaji MLA, who is Goa’s chief minister, is heating up day by day.
After strongly objecting to casinos in river Mandovi, Panaji Mayor Surendra Furtado has now ordered to stop the ongoing repairs of Panaji jetty.
He has instructed commissioner of the City Corporation of Panaji to immediately stop the construction activity carried out by Captain of Ports without CCP permission.
Furtado has pointed out that the Captain of Ports has not sought CCP permission required under sections 264 and 265 of the CCP Act, 2002.
In his note moved to the Commissioner, Furtado has also stated that the Captain of Ports has blocked major part of the road by piling up debris and other construction material on the D B Bandodkar Marg, which runs along river Mandovi.
This has caused inconvenience to the traffic and pedestrians passing on the road.
Furtado belongs to the opposition Congress camp, led by St Cruz MLA Babush Monseratte.
