Reginald Cong chief, Digambar Opp Leader after budget session?
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 10 March 2016 22:23 IST

Soon after the budget session next week, Congress will probably have a new team with Alex Reginald Lourenco as the state Congress president and Digambar Kamat as the opposition leader.
Highly placed sources confirmed with goanews.com that Congress president Sonia Gandhi has already cleared the proposal of making Lourenco the new party president.
Luizinho Faleiro had tendered his resignation long ago with a request to get a replacement as soon as possible.
Accordingly, sources disclose that Mrs Gandhi as well as vice president Rahul Gandhi had discussions with Faleiro last week in the national capital over the issue.
It is learnt that Lourenco’s name has strongly been proposed by party’s Goa observer Digvijay Singh.
Sources also claim that the Curtorim MLA met Mrs Gandhi two weeks ago in this regard.
On the other hand, former CM Kamat is presently camping in New Delhi since yesterday as he was being considered to be the new CLP leader, replacing Pratapsing Rane.
It is learnt that Kamat had one-to-one meeting with Digvijay Singh late evening today and his name is being cleared for the post.
Earlier, the Margao MLA had also met Salman Khurshid and Hariprasad.
Kamat is expected to return to Goa tomorrow evening.
Sources say that Cumbarjua MLA Pandurang Madkaikar’s name was earlier proposed as the CLP leader but the party leadership had a second thought after Rane duo- father and son – strongly opposed it.
The announcement in this regard is expected soon after the budget session is over next week.
The announcement would also include several new faces.
Sources also disclosed to goanews.com that the party has decided to revoke suspension of former minister Aleixo Sequeira, who was suspended by former GPCC chief John Fernandes.
It is learnt that Sequeira met party high command in Delhi this week while instructions have been sent to Faleiro to revoke his suspension.
Looks like this development would also lead to getting Congress groups more ‘closer’ to their former party, including Babush Monseratte as well as Vijai Sardesai’s Goa Forward.
Perhaps this is the reason Kamat as well as Vishwajeet Rane congratulated Babush for his CCP victory while strongly criticising the party move to contest the corporation election.
