Sambar (Elk) meat seized in Margao

The wild life rescue squad today early morning seized meat of Elk (Sambar) in a raid conducted at Comba in Margao.
Jose Cruz, the owner of the house and reportedly brother of a former influential politician of Salcete, is presently absconding.
Deputy Conservator of Forest Sanjay Waradkar told goanews.com that the meat is almost of a full Elk.
The squad started searching for the house after receiving a complaint that one Elk has been killed and even produced the Elk skin.
The squad finally located the house near Vithal Mandir in Comba area of Margao at around 7 am.
Unfortunately, however, Cruz had left the house, probably to supply the meat by 6.30 am.
The forest officials suspect that Cruz has been regularly supplying the meat of wild life to hotels in Salcete.
As Cruz has not returned home, all the police stations and forest check posts have been alerted to look out for Cruz as well as his vehicle.
