BJP backtracks, demands President's rule

Joining hands with the Congress, the Bharatiya Janata party has demanded President’s rule in Goa while dissolving the current Assembly, following resignation by chief minister Luizinho Faleiro.
Dr Wilfred de Souza, who had earlier staked claim with the opposition support including the BJP, is yet to approach the Raj Bhavan, though governor has asked him to stake a fresh claim as the situation has changed.
While changing its stand to support de Souza when he had staked his claim five days ago, BJP spokesperson Manohar Parrikar said he is sceptical about de Souza’s intention to dissolve the House after taking over.
He also pointed out that de Souza’s supporters include one Congressman facing disqualification and another independent who has switched sides too often and cannot be relied upon. The Congress government collapsed in 75 days due to these two legislators shifting over to de Souza camp.
Demanding dissolution of the House and imposition of the President’s rule, the BJP today afternoon handed over a letter to the governor stating they would prefer Assembly polls by June instead of supporting any new government in the current House.
"The current Assembly has lost all its sanctity and therefore no government has a right to rule in the state…In order to achieve level-playing field, the reins of the state should be taken over by the President", stated the letter.
As all the 18 Congress members have also given a similar letter to the governor today afternoon, the BJP feels the governor should immediately declare keeping the Assembly under suspended animation, in order to avoid any kind of further horsetrading.
