Parrikar & Vishwajeet crossing swords in Sankhli civic poll
GOANEWS DESK, SANKHLI | 11 May 2013 23:25 IST

In Sankhli, secretively, it is a fight for civil poll between chief minister Manohar Parrikar versus Valpoi MLA Vishwajeet Rane.
But visible is the fight between BJP MLA Pramod Sawant and former Congress MLA Pratap Gawas.
In fact Parrikar made it a point to come to Sankhli to campaign for its candidates, though Vishwajeet is not seen campaigning as openly as the chief minister.
In fact, the Congress has not openly supported any candidates as a group but is working behind the scene.
There are altogether 53 candidates in the fray for 11 seats.
Former Congress MLA sounded confident of winning election with a rising frustration among the people due to non-starting of mines for five months and no case coming up in the Supreme Court at least for next three months.
Sankhli BJP MLA Pramod Sawant however appears confident of countering this frustration on the basis of packages provided by the government to mine-affected people, besides other developmental works.
The election would start tomorrow morning by 7 am, to be concluded by 5 pm.
