Beef to flow as HC allows 'conditional' slaughter

Beef is expected to start flowing immediately in Goan market as the high court today allowed Goa Meat Complex to allow slaughter cattle, but with conditions.
In response to the petition filed by Govansh Suraksha Manch, the high court had stayed cattle slaughtering at the GMC.
The Manch had alleged lots of irregularities in the GMC.
However, the issue was later discussed in the Assembly and chief minister Manohar Parrikar had assured to intervene into the petition, praying for slaughter in order to control illegal slaughter of cattle.
The Bombay high court at Goa accordingly heard the government side and allowed to slaughter animals while imposing conditions.
The animal slaughter at the GMC would now be allowed only during day time, that too after getting it certified from the Manch and the veterinary doctors.
Manch member Hanumant Parab says the court has also restrained the GMC to slaughter existing 130 animals in the GMC.
The court has also not allowed the GMC to import animals from other states, he said.
The hearing would now continue while providing relaxation to the interim stay granted by the high court earlier.
The interim order had affected the Goan market very badly as beef had disappeared from hotels menus and also from the Goan households.
Meanwhile, a government communiqué issued by animal husbandry department today evening stated that 57 surplus and uneconomical animals (Murrah she Buffaloes) are available for sale at Dhat Farm in Mollem.
The sale would be made on working days on first come first serve basis.
